`I bought this book when my daughter had just started at school nursery and found it really useful. It has lots of activities and games which help teach the kind of skills your child will need in order to learn reading, maths, etc at school. Each chapter relates to a section of the National Curriculum Foundation Stage. At the start of each chapter it explains the NC very briefly and then gives a selection of different activities you can do with your child which will help them. It's aimed at 3-5 year olds so you can use it while your child is in nursery or reception or just before they start to help prepare them for what they will be doing. It's all about fun and learning through play - not at all about hot housing your child - most of the activities are things that you would want to do just for fun even without thinking about the educational side. I found the National Curriculum a bit baffling, and this book is great because it explains it in very straightforward and practical terms. Also I'm not all that good at thinking of different games and activities to do so I found it very useful for ideas for things to do at weekends and in the school holidays which will complement what she is doing at school’ – Amazon Review

A book packed full of practical activities for parents to do at home with their children – things to make, games to play and ways to promote learning in everyday activities such as washing, cooking and going to the supermarket.

No worksheets – just lots of ideas for things to do so that young children are learning in a way that is appropriate for their age. Includes explanations of how activities relate to the early years curriculum as well as what they help children to learn and understand.
